Greater Portland will soon be home to two of the finest Celtic High Cross replicas in the world. The president of George Fox College is in Ireland (May 24) to receive the Drumcliffe Cross, which was begun by sculptor Brendan McGloin and completed by his mentors after his untimely death. McGloin’s Cross of the Scriptures currently stands at the Oregon Potto Famine Memorial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

The Hibernian High Cross at the Oregon Potato Famine Memorial inspired the President of George Fox College to commission a second High Cross sandstone replica by the late artist Brendan McGloin. The Cross is expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
