Trump acolyte and advocate Stephen Kevin Bannon recently said the land of his ancestors,Ireland, is ripe for a MAGA-style revolution, complete with an Irish Trump. In this second of two columns I consider some comments.

Former top Trump adviser Steve Bannon is talking about Ireland again. He’s sure the Republic is ready for some Trumpism. Turns out Bannon has a close connection with Ireland through his third wife, a Limerick woman.

In April 1859, the men who voted for a new Mayor of Portland ignored the “virulent nativism” that had taken hold in some eastern cities during the turbulent 1850s. Their response to those who treated the Irish Catholic immigrant as second class citizen was to elect one as Mayor. Stephen J. McCormick was 29 when he won that election.
