The last Sunday in July in Ireland - Reek Sunday - is the day thousands of pilgrims climb Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s holiest mountain. Why? For various reasons. Tradition. Penitence. The physical challenge of it. The author had a simple reason: It was there near Westport in County Mayo and so was he last October.
